The challenge

The recently appointed CFO needed to hire a strategic finance business partner to ensure better management information and analysis. This was a new role outside the scoped budget, but it was very much a strategic need. Above all, the role had to be filled quickly.

The solution

As this was the first time the organisation had looked to hire a finance business partner, there was no previous template to refer to. Looking for a recommendation, the CFO sought advice from a trusted former colleague, the head of FP&A at her previous employer. They recommended Andy Mackay, principal consultant at Eames Consulting, having worked with him for multiple successful placements over a number of years.

Impressed by Andy’s credentials, the client agreed to give Eames Consulting exclusivity on the role. Firmly embedded in the private equity sector within finance, Andy knew the pool of candidates who could do the job was particularly small – but that also meant he knew exactly where to look.

The result

  • Finance business partner placed within two weeks.

Andrew has been a great recruiter to work with. Great knowledge of his area of specialty! I managed to find the right person to fill my position in about a month. Such a quick process!” Chief Financial Officer

Andy helped to rescope the job specification to better reflect the requirements of the role and ensure it would appeal to target candidates. Having developed an extensive network in the market over 15 years, Andy was well acquainted with the candidate pool, which meant he didn’t need to advertise the role widely. Instead, he spoke directly to some of the strongest candidates in this community and came up with a shortlist within 24 hours. Following a three-stage interview process, the successful candidate was offered the role within two weeks.

The future

“We firmly believe that filling one job doesn’t entitle you to anything – it’s about that ongoing relationship and truly understanding our client’s needs. Repeat business is a key measure of whether we’re doing our job properly, so we were delighted to assist the client on a further finance requirement.” Andy Mackay, Principal Consultant, Corporate Functions

Within a week of the successful placement, the hiring manager mentioned the need for a 12-month temporary tax assignment, which Andy immediately set out to fill – reflecting not only the client’s satisfaction with our hire, but their willingness to turn to us for their ongoing recruitment requirements.
